For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. (Rom 11:36 NAU)
It is a universal and unchangeable law that all people will one day die. But not everyone truly believes what the Bible says will happen after this. The Bible says that after death, each person will stand before God to be judged by him. This is only fitting because God is our Creator. He gave us life. The problem is that no one, no matter how good they think they have been, will be able to stand before God. The Bible declares that all men are born with hearts of rebellion against Him and His holy law. This rebellion finds expression in bad thoughts and in bad things that we say and do. It also finds expression in our failure to love God with all our hearts and to perfectly obey Him. This is called sin. The Bible says that even if we try to do good things but do them apart from God that these good things are like filthy rags to Him. God hates sin and His holiness demands that He must punish all those who are not pure in His sight. He will pour out his wrath on sinners. This is bad news.
But, there is good news. The same Bible that tells us about God's holiness and justice also tells us about God's love. God sent His own Son into the world to perfectly obey the demands of His holiness and to die in the place of sinners.
How can a person who is sinful be saved from God's wrath? In one way the answer is very simple. The Bible says, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved." What does this mean? First, it means that you must understand and believe who Jesus is, that He is God and that He was also man, and that He lived a sinless life. Then, you must believe that Jesus died on the cross and that because He was perfectly holy, He was able to satisfy God's justice and wrath in the place of sinners. And, you must believe that Jesus rose from the dead. This is proof that His perfect righteousness was accepted by God. Finally, you must truly be sorry that you have sinned against God and you must turn away from your sin and trust in the Lord Jesus to save you. God promises that whoever will call on the name of the Lord Jesus in this way will be saved. Calling on the name of the Lord Jesus means coming with a desire and intent on being his disciple, of obeying everything he commands.
God commands all men everywhere to repent. He has been gracious to give to you the good news of the gospel that you have just read. Turn in repentance and faith to him right now.
